i dont have 3rd party firewalls

i dont know if this is relevant but for some reason the ethernet cable doesnt work so i used a usb cable (Dynalink ADSl2+ modem router)

Is it a possibility that you might have your IP addresses configured incorrectly and they're in different subnets?

Just to verify this, can you please tell us the IP address, subnet mask and gateway for both the 360 and PC. Of course, if they obtain addresses automatically then this shouldn't be an issue.
sorry i dont understand what you mean (ive only had broadband for about 6 months and i dont really understand a lot of that kind of jargon)

i dont know if this answers the question about the modem hanging out ip addresses. but i just plugged it in and it automatically detected my settings, i didnt need to enter a username and password or anything like that if thats what you mean?
