We're not talking about the signal. Anyone can see a difference between 1080p and 720p signals. We are talking about the resolution of the HDTV itself. For example my Panasonic plasma can accept 1080p via HDMI, but it has a 720p resolution. Does that mean a Panasonic plasma w/ a 1080p resolution will look better with the same 1080p signal? No!
720p and 1080p resolution displays look the same assuming the other aspects are constant

I spent less on my TV (Pioneer 5080) and used the extra money to get it ISF calibrated. I would be willing to put it up against ANY non-calibrated 1080p set. 1080P is a lot of hype, I can't tell the difference at my viewing distance (8'-10').
