Exclamation Changing From Wired to Wireless Problems

Hey, im having trouble trying to connect to my wireless network. When I go into the systems blade and edit my network settings the "Wireless Mode" panel is grey and cant be selected even though my wireless adapter (The official microsoft one) is connected and has a solid red light showing its ready to connect to a network.
When i do a Xbox Live or a Media test it says that the network adapter is "Disconnected", and all the advice i seem to be able to find is try taking it out and plugging it back in and that really dosnt make any difference.

I dont have an ethernet cable plugged in, although i did used to have it wired. Could there be some setting to change my console over to wireless? i have tried re-setting to the factory settings and have even tried maintenace on my hard drive, but with no luck. And I have tried the adapter on all the USB ports.

Im using a Orange Livebox, and the Official Microsoft Adapter, and i have 3 other pc's the have been able to connect to the network fine which makes me think its an issue with my xbox.

Has anybody else had this problems of know whats causing the "Wireless Mode" panel to be unavaliable?

Cheers.
