Army of Two is the best of all the above for multiplayer, it is unrivalled in the way it makes you work together. I'll agree with you on Gears, it's a half decent game but more of a pain than enjoyable!

Kane & Lynch has a pretty good co-op mode but the game is as short as Army of Two so that's a mite disappointing. Halo 3 follows the same story on co-op as in single player, the only difference is that player 2 is the Arbiter so you always have back-up.

The Ghost Recon series in my opinion was ruined as soon as No.2 came out, the first lot were great games but from 2 onwards it's not fun anymore. COD4 has no co-op at all but does have arguably the best story line of an FPS since the Halo series and it's quite long too.
