Be sure that your console is ventiated properly. I've got the same problem when my first 360 was overheating. Really bad thing... just put it on a table with spacers (i use 4 pepsi bottles caps!) under it to let some air flows under it. or like i do, a some fans in the wall of your entertainment unit if you got crazy cats who are wire hunters!

I stuck my Antec laptop cooling pad under my 360. Plugs right into the USB port and runs smoothly and quietly.
