So there's a nice big loop hole @ BB. I'm currently doing it right now.
1. Buy an HDTV $999+
2. Sign up for DirectTV in store and get $300 off
3. Buy an HD-DVD/BluRay player and get $100 off
4. Buy a $500+ sound system and get $100 off
5. Get any installation and get $100 off or $200 off a plasma
Total Discount: $700 off a plasma, $600 off any other HDTV
Once you do that you need to return everything but the HDTV and call DirectTV to cancel. Some people have even pretended to talk to someone at DirectTV as BB doesn't ask for any information. They just hand you the phone
Everything rings up as full price except for the HDTV. Many many people have done this. I bought everything today, will be returning everything tomorrow night(night crew generally cares less). I'll pick up the HDTV the day after just in case something goes wrong tomorrow and I want to return it all.
Update: I canceled DirectTV install and I have so far returned the Klipsch Quintet speakers I bought and the installation. I went to a different BB than the one I bought everything from, they didn't even ask why I was returning it. Go at night, people care less and it's easier to get away with stuff. I don't think the rep that helped me even knew what or why HDTV Advantage was highlighted.
Another Update: I returned the HD-DVD player but was able to keep the 3 free HD-DVDs. Getting store credit for the HD-DVD will make this in essence $800 off.
P.S. Hundreds of people have posted doing this on Slickdeals and Fat Wallet for months, this isn't new
Update:
You have nothing to lose. Worst case scenario: You return everything
Alright, I picked up my 42" Panny today. It's now sitting in my living room.
Also, Panasonic has $200 off their plasmas if you get it installed. I have the paperwork for the install as well as receipt saying I got it installed so I'm gonna try to get the rebate.
Lastly, the plasma went on sale today, $250 off. So I got that price matched.
All in all:
42" Panasonic Plasma - $1399
-$250 on sale
-$100 for getting HD-DVD
-$100 for getting a sound system
-$200 for getting installation
-$300 for getting DirectTV
-$100 store credit for keeping 3 HD-DVDs for free
-$200 for getting install rebate from Panny(pending)
End Cost: $149.99 + Tax = $162.36
That's right, I got a brand new in box 42" Panasonic TX75U plasma for $162.
