COD5 won't return to WW2?

PS3 News: Call Of Duty 5 Won't Return To WWII?

Quote:
For the first time in the series, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare abandoned the trademark World War II setting...and the game ended up being the best in the franchise by a long shot. However, directly after the game's massive success, we had heard that Call of Duty 5 would be returning to that WWII theme.

This belief has been called into question, though, as according to CVG and GameSpot, Activision CEO Mike Griffith has said that the fifth installment "will take the series to a new military theater." We're not entirely sure what this means, but perhaps after the huge sales of CoD4, they don't want to head back to Nazi territory so quickly...

"We'll bring the intensity of the recent Call of Duty: Modern Warfare title to a new military theatre to engage our significantly larger user base which nearly doubled last year as new users came into the franchise," said Griffith.

We're big fans of the old "if it ain't broke" adage, but at the same time, we can't deny what a change in scenery did for the series when CoD4 exploded across the world. Perhaps it would be best to keep the modern environment, and besides, don't we have enough WWII shooters by now? Oh, and one final nugget of info: Griffith confirmed that a new Bond game is in the works, and it'll use the CoD4 engine. Good call.
