Matchmaking is good, because it doesn't put you in rooms with fuckin veterans of the game. In Call of Duty 4, I am put with people on prestige, maybe multiple prestige. It is annoying, because obviously they are good players and know the game, while some people are noobs. With matchmaking, everything is good.
