Personally I like FPS's more because they are more immersive. You see the game from the prospective of the character your playing. To me it connects you to the character more. Also I feel as it allows you to have better control over your character.

TPS are good for some games. They do add strategy and allow you to see more of the area that you would see than the limited sight vision of the first person perspective. However seeing the full body of my character without having to look in the mirror just breaks the immersion for me.

Really FPS can do almost anything a TPS could do, just so far no one has been able to make it intuitive enough for it to become popular. I know several FPS games that have attempted to make the cover situation work but it either felt awkward.
