There are a couple of UPnP media servers out there which will stream video to the 360, but I'm not sure of the quality. They also won't transcode any non-supported filetypes like Treanscode and Tversity do, so you have to convert the file first.

Mike, try the following fix. It worked for me a few months back.
Change transcode360.config, you can find it in the directory you installed Transcode to. Open it in Notepad.

add key= 'ForceSafeResolution' value= 'no'
to
add key= 'ForceSafeResolution' value= 'yes'
