This is what I would do. I would get a nice 40-50 incher, you can get a nice 720/1080i for 700-1000 bucks now. They don't cost that much as they use to. No media really supports up to 1080p yet, so just get a tv that can scale to 720p/1080i. All of the games on the 360/ps3 are just basically using the 720p resolution and so are the movies.

I'm still researching, but in 2009 or 2010 these tvs will be like 300-500 with 1080p. It's just like standard tvs, they use to cost a butt load. Now, you can get a 32 inch for a 100 bucks, dead technology. At first, I thought to myself come on is hd that worth it? When I saw the jags vs indy game last year. That's when I knew I wanted to go HD. I can tell hd for tv, you can see the audience so much better, instead of being fuzzy and shady. They're more detailed and crisp.

If the laser tv is true, I say get a 720, then upgrade in a few years!
What I would do is get the largest quality 720p display your money could afford(assuming you can sit far back enough). Or better yet get a pj. Also, almost every HDTV is 720p or 1080p, not 1080i.

I don't see 1080p 50" HDTVs being $500 in 2 years. That's too optimistic. Time will tell I suppose.

How much you looking to spend and how far back do you sit?

Oh also all BR/HD-DVD movies are 1080p
