mass effect is amazing, but it has several nasty flaws that become glaringly obvious to anyone who plays it:

1. framerate is awful
2. texture pop-in, CONSTANTLY
3. waiting for 45 seconds in slow ass elevators- isn't this supposed to be the future?
4. many conversation options are fake, you choose one of several options but they all result in the same conversation (play it through twice with different responses and you'll see what i mean).
5. vehicle controls are strange/awkard

i could go on. it's a great game and i love it, and it's better than most games out there, but there are problems which should have been fixed before the release date, so i don't think it deserves 10/10 or even 9.7/10. maybe a 9.

then again i have to agree that some of those other scores are too high. i like H3, but it's just H2 with better graphics and some new gameplay elements added. the evolution from KOTOR to mass effect is HUGE compared to the miniscule advancement of halo 3 over halo 1 and 2.
