Apparently this game is linear!
In a 360 gamer hands on review you have to do things in a particular order and then kill the target in a pre-defined place to complete missions.
Hardly true freedom
Sadly games with true freedom are just nigh on impossible to code as you cannot code every possibility

it is linear not freedom, you can only do the mission or get in trouble....

i guess the freedom they mean is choosing how to deal with your target

Storyline may be linear, but doesnt mean you can't go off and run around the city, climb some buildings, do some side quests etc in between kills.

Depends on the game I suppose, but freedom is always sweet. wOOties brings up an excellent point using Half-life as the example of good games that are linear (Orange Box...WOOHOO!) but I'm very much looking forward to the freedom of Assassin's Creed. It just seems like the right style of game for it from what I can tell.

The appeal to Assassins Creed is that the game allows you to free roam.

It would be Prince of Persia in a different setting without the free-roam.

Obviously GTA is the king of freedom, but other games like Hitman & Splintercell have introduced a good mixture of both forms.

For mine AC needs the freedom to demonstrate the new movements available in the new game. It would be pointless to have talked up such a situation such as the 1" ledge grabbing if it was a linear wall climb.
