I agree it wasn't a very good ending...however it just sets it up for a sequel. Ubisoft has announced they plan to make 2 sequels, so I'm hoping that should help tie off the ends AC left hanging.

Edit: Also, in the third one you will reportedly play as Desmond, the guy who layed in the Animus in this one. That should be a nice reprieve from Middle Eastern times...

yeah well.. i dunno.. i thought the gameplay was real fun.. and the plot was great.. reminded me how much i miss those games.. personally i think it can only get better...but i still wouldn't pay full retail price for the game
