MW title without COD statistics

Basically, for those of you that didn't know. The game is called Madern Warfare 2, not COD: Modern Warfare. And it seems that awareness of the game has dropped to a half from when it was called COD: MW 2, but IW decides to still keep the name without COD in the title, as it's still is a significantly anticipated game.

Report: 'Modern Warfare 2' Suffers Sans 'Call of Duty' - Shacknews - PC Games, PlayStation, Xbox 360 and Wii video game news, previews and downloads

Quote:
The removal of "Call of Duty" from the title of Infinity Ward's latest shooter "Modern Warfare 2" means that up to half as many gamers will recognize and anticipate the game, according to an OTX survey reported on by Gamasutra.

OTX uses a representative sample of US gamers to track awareness of upcoming titles. As of May, 40% of those gamers were aware of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. After Activision dropped "Call of Duty" from the official title of the game, OTX followed suit in the survey, leading the awareness to hit a low of 20%.

"In other words, the Call of Duty brand association essentially doubles the awareness for the game," said OTX analyst Nick Williams. "That is quite a remarkable statistic."

Despite confusion over the rebranding, Williams notes that the game is still posting the highest level of "Pre-Order Intent" amongst gamers.

"Even without the Call of Duty association, it is still perceived as a must have title," he added.

Well most gamers know that it's related to COD...and if you're a gamer and don't you're stupid. I don't think that leaving COD on the title is gonna sell more games...

Ok modern warfare 1 was a massive release and it was all people talked about. Like I was flipping through channels and came to a texas hold em' poker game and the players were talking about modern warfare 1. People will recognize it, and if they don't, then like SteezyVillain said, they're stupid. Plus chances are people will research modern warfare 1 if they haven't played it when they see the "2" in the title and realize it's a sequel.

I think you both are underestimating "people" or "gamers". Mainstream gamers are not like that, they don't research, nor do they hang out on forums. It's very likely for a big portion to not recognize the game when it first releases, because majority of them do not anticipate games like we do.

Sure, eventually the game will build hype on it's own, but it's not going to be like Halo 3 where people pre-ordered it right off the bat. Halo 3 had that because of it's name, GTA IV was hyped because of it's name. You really think that people would by GTA IV, if it didn't have GTA on it?

The biggest impact I think it would have is with parents when their kids ask for the new Call of Duty game. Other than that, I'm sure most people will figure it out or the store employees will at least be able to tell them. I'm not sure why they chose to drop it though, it doesn't seem like it was hurting anything.

I don't know, Call of Duty, sounds like a WWII type of game, but maybe it's just me.

If you don't know what modern warfare 2 is without COD in it, you should probably not get the game. I think from now on any game with the words Modern or Warfare will instantly make me think of IW's Modern Warfare.

Well. Either way, me and my friends will still keep calling it Cod. When we want to play online, we will stay say, "wanna play some cod?" So they can drop it, but it's become so popular that the name will always stick to it.

I don't think it matters if it's not called Call of Duty. It's just like any other game. If people see the trailer, they like it...Then they'll buy it.

There is a significant possibility that sales will go down at first, but once the "people" realize how good of a game it is, the sales will start to go up.

Who knows, we may see a whole new franchise here. I mean, every CoD game has been Modern (Weapons and such etc.) except for World at War. IW realized that people are sick of WW2 games, so now they're starting to make the games more....Modern.

I mean c'mon...If they continued to call it Call of Duty, then after awhile it'd be like Call of Duty 17. They have to change it up once in awhile.
