If your doing 3d Visualisation you should look at the Dell Precision M6400.
It has a Quadro based GFX card, which is optimised for OpenGL, better for apps like Maya etc. Can also be configured with the screen res you want, 1920x1200.
The Sony Specs don't specify what GFX card it actually has!

I'm not really Majoring in 3D. Just teaching myself in my free time. I'm maybe gonna Minor in 3D design or something similar.... But my Major is Computer Science. Which is basically programming as you may know....

What GFX card does the Sony have? If your gonna spend that kind of cash on hardware, then you might as well get hardware that is going to do everything you want/need.

Maya has the 9600GT listed as ongoing testing for Windows 7.... You may be better off looking for a machine with the Quadro or FireGL card.
Looking at their spec requirements you'll have trouble running Maya on a laptop GFX card regardless....

Also couldn't you just upgrade the RAM and HDD itself without having to buy it with the laptop itself (which is overpriced might add).
