Video Editing....
I usually create some home movies now and then using my HDD camcorder.
Previously I woudl use Movie Maker, and then DVD Maker to create a simple DVD to share with family etc.
However, Windows 7 does not come with Movie or DVD maker any more.
I like to just put my video clips together, with transitions in between, and some text in certain places - nothing majorly wow.
I believe that you can install certain versions of Movie Maker on Windows 7, but they are slimmed down versions?
Any other decent, easy to use programs, out there that will fulfill my needs?

Then go for after effects, just download the trial and it will give yo full access to the program for like 2 or 3 months, it will tel you your running out just uninstall it and re install it.
Other than those there are plenty of other programs but i wouldn't trust most of them.

For those simple things After Effects will be seriously overkill, but its also seriously fun to play around with.
If you descided to go with it, i'd strongly recomend some essential training from Lynda.com

I see your point,
After Effects is mostly a clean up program, but it is an insane amount of fun when you get the hand of it.

Grab Windows Live Essentials, it should let you download the new Beta movie maker. Be warned though, they got rid of the timeline "to make it more simple". Personally i think they completely fucked up a very decent editor with that decision. That means you can't even split clips anymore.

All I've ever used is Vegas. It's pretty straightforward for basic use, but I think you can also do some more advanced stuff with it if you'd like.

I understand you can just copy the Movie Maker folder from within 'Program Files' on a Vista PC, and paste it into the Program Files folder on Win7, and it still works perfectly fine........the only thing it lacks is the option to output in HD....
Does the Windows Live package include DVD maker, or anything similar?
