Switching from Vista to Windows 7
I have a couple questions. I got a free copy of Windows 7 Ultimate and I am trying to figure out if I should keep it for myself to sell it. First question, is there much difference from Vista to Win 7? 2nd I have heard of quite a few people having problems installing and being stuck with constant reboots. Has that been fixed or does anyone have that problem here?
I want to just do a update....cause all my stuff on the pc is on one hard drive, will it erase anything doing the update? My last question is me and my girlfriend are both connected to a router, she has Vista as well, if I switch to Windows 7 will there be any problems with the internet connection since she uses Vista? I know its alot of questions, sorry. Thanks for any help.

Windows 7 is the bees knees. Install it. No problems for me, and you shouldn't have any issues with her using the Internet on Vista and you using it on 7.

While some people may have problems with their hardware and reboots...i think for a majority of the people, it's working just fine. I know it is for me.
As far as being far better than Vista...it's a bit leaner. There are some snazzy new features like aero peek, aero snap, jumplists, superbar and problem steps recorder that are pretty cool.
You can upgrade and it will bring over your existing programs and data into Windows 7.
Yes, you can access the web with different computers running different OS's through the same router once you introduce Windows 7 to the network.

If you've got a decent computer that runs vista perfectly fine there isn't a huge difference, its got some nice features like jump links and the snapping to corners thing, but nothing huge.

I agree 100% with Butcher. While I run it on my new main machine at home, my wife has a laptop running just fine with Windows Vista and we have no intention whatsoever of ever upgrading that machine to Windows 7. The few extra features are not worth the $$'s.

The only reason i upgraded was because of your scaremongering pparks
In terms of performance its quite a bit faster to start up and shut down, in general use nothing amazing over vista.

I'd install it (if your computer was a low end machine). But if your computer is decent you won't see any major difference in the front end upgrading from Vista to W7. It never hurts to try it out though .

Hmm.. XP to W7 is a no brainer. Do it.
Vista to W7... well, if Vista's running fine and you're happy with it then it's probably not worth the money. Personally, I dislike Vista enough to justify the cost, but I'm a nerd who got a Technet subscription so I could!
I would suggest upgrading yours. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Then let the gf have a play with it and get used to it before you fork out any cash for her upgrade. Also, don't bother with Ultimate for her. Home Premium will do everything the standard user wants for a smaller price.

I upgraded only because it cost me a measly $30. Not much different in Vista, but it was worth the $30 it cost me.
