HAHAHA!! Yeah, about the same here...
My one complaint is the mouse(touchpad)'s buttons. They are kinda flimsy feeling and need to really be pressed. Instead of the firm click I'm used to.

That is probably usually since you haven't used it, maybe it has to be broken in. Parks I searched on some places and remember that black screen I told you about it seems to be from a vista update. Should I just keep it like this or go back with a restore.

User Access Control. What is it for in Vista? If I turn it off, am I setting myself up to get screwed? I really don't want to have to allow everything that I am asking my computer to do.

UAC just tells the user when something changes in the actual operating system, or something runs as Administrator. If it's off, then Malware and Spyware could potentially install itself without you knowing. So if the screen goes dark and asks you to continue the process, yet you didn't do anything to make it that way, you know to deny that action so whatever it is that's trying to run can be stopped.
Yes, it's a pain the ass! And it stops some proper programs from running properly. Normally I wouldn't recommend turning something like that off, but in some cases you have to.

^So, how'd I do then Jimmy? I hope I did ok.
Also, you have any tips on Vista. I haven't noticed anything special about it so far other than the theme. I do I get the most out of it?

Yeah, it looks fine. Not as good as the Vostro you were looking at to start with, I think, but it will do everything you originally said you wanted to do on it.
And there's not much to Vista right now. Hey, I can tell you how to turn that theme off so it looks like Windows 2000 and runs about the same as Windows 2000! Other than that, nothing. Like Parksie, I'm not excited about it. In fact, I rolled my work PC back to XP the other day since Vista was driving me nuts.
Get this, I work for a Microsoft Gold Partner and my main OS on my work PC is Ubuntu! HAHAHA! Screw 'em!
BTW: That laptop will run Beryl very well if you dual boot!

I may look into Ubuntu once I get used to everything else. Parks was telling me there's no way to take Vista off and install XP. It came preinstalled so, I have no disk. Which totally sucks. When we first got it Racel set it up for optimum max and had the few bells and whistles turned off. It ran superfast. I just turned the theme back on. Screw the widgets or whatever MS calls them. If I want that, Google Desktop FTW!!!

Actually, I told you that there isn't an easy way to take Vista off, put XP on and then go back to Vista if you decide that you don't want XP since they didn't send you an actual Windows Vista installation cd.

The only thing which is "future proof" is DEATH. Did I mention, I absolutely hate the use of the term "future proof".

Why, oh, why do those bloody clown manufacturers go with the rescue partitions now??? Bloody ripoff if you ask me. I want to be able to install my base OS on the laptop, since I paid for the license! AND I want to use the full size of the hard disk I bought!
Recovery CD that auto-installed all the extra crap were bad enough.

^Oh, so I can run XP, it will just still have Vista on there? Is that an ok/worthwhile thing to do. Seems like having 2 OS', and the possibilty of dual booting Linux at some point, could be overkill.
