I'm looking at upgrading the memory in my computer from 512MB to 1GB, I have 2 256MB sticks installed it in right now. Can I buy 1 1GB stick and leave the other slot empty? Or do I need to buy 2 512MB sticks?
I did a scan on crucial and it said my maximum memory capacity is 1GB, Can I put more than this in?

Which mainboard do you have? I would look into the mainboard specs for the answer to how much RAM it can handle...

I'm considering buying a new printer soon, and seeing as there are 3 computers in the house I think it's best to buy one with an ethernet port, and network it.
I've never done this before, but I assume it's quite simple. If I connect the printer to my DG834 (to which the 3 aforementioned PCs are also connected), should I then be able to configure the printer one each PC via Control Panel-assuming network discovery is enabled?
One thing I'm not sure about is IP addresses; do I need to assign the printer a static IP? If so, how would I go about doing this?
Thanks

TBH honest, Ive also just sold my printer!
Im looking to buy a multifunction all-in-one printer, which I can also network.
I always tend to give the printer a static IP. It makes setting the printer up on PCs much easier, and they never fail to connect to it, since its always on the same IP.
- Connect the printer to the router.
- Go through the printer settings (most printers will have a display these days, where you can go through and give it an IP address yourself). By default it will be set to obtain an IP from DHCP.
- You could alternatively set your DHCP to always assign the same address to the printer, thus leaving the printer to auto obtian an address, since it will therefore always be given the sam eone. However, I always use the above option.
- On your PCs, you manually go through the 'Add New Printer' wizard.
- Rather then selecting 'Local Printer' select 'Network Printer'. Enter the printer's IP address etc. Once it finds the printer you can install the drivers from your disc etc as normal.
- Do this on each of your PCs to connect them to the same printer.
The printer will have its own memory/print server to queue up print jobs etc. Since its connected directly to your router, you dont have to have a certain PC on to be able to print from other PCs.
Hope that makes sense.

Yep, perfect sense, cheers Ifti.
Our old HP seems to be dieing (going on 10 years now!) and I'm looking at getting a Digital SLR camera later in the year, so I was looking for something that you can print to directly from an SD/XD/CF etc. card. The HP C7280 seems quite a good solution, also incorporating a Fax, Scanner and Copier.
Not to mention, it's a pain in the ass having to put everything that needs printing onto a USB stick, and print via my dad's ancient Windows Me machine!
