It always restarts right in the middle of the scan. I'd like to fix it myself instead of paying somebody else too, but sometimes you have to.

Ok, I have an AMD 1.34GHz processor and 512MB of Ram. Will upgrading to 1GB of ram make a difference at all?

Yep.
If you clean install the box when you upgrade the memory, you'll see a huge performace jump.
Windows XP should sing on your machine.

It always help speed things up!
