No video on most of my WMV files

i have no clue as to why this happened but 99% of my wmv files have no video. the sound comes out the speakers but i just get a blank screen, i know the files are not corrupt because i can play them on my xbox with media centre. I've tried them on media centre to rule out a fault with WMP. I have also tried converting them to mp4 and avi but have had no success.

please help

Sounds like a driver issue with your Graphics card.

The older nVidia and ATi Drivers used to do this when Video Acceleration was turned on.

my graphics card is actually an intel graphics media accelerator 950 but ive upgraded the drivers from intel's website with no success any more suggestions will be appreciated

What i am puzzled about is the fact some videos are working perfectly including some WMV files

P.S yes i have restarted my laptop after installing the drivers

IN the performance section of Windows Media Player, turn off Video Acceleration.

If this works then it is a driver problem, and you may need to find some older drivers then, like on your main board install disk.

If this doesn't work then it's a codec problem, and I'd reinstall Windows Media Player.

Download details: Windows Media Player 11 for Windows XP

In your main options for Windows Media Player, there's an option to turn off Hardware Acceleration for video playback. Just try taking that tick out. I can't remember where exactly it is, since I don't have WMP on this PC, but it's in the WMP Options box somewhere.

There are 2 possible reasons why it could be doing this. Codecs and drivers. If you have the latest Intel drivers then that's one thing sorted. The other one is a little harder to troubleshoot since we need to know if you have any codec packs installed.

That being said, it could be an issue with the latest Intel drivers, and rolling back to a previous version may help.
