Why would 2 512s be better than 1 1GB? So should I get 2 512MBs and 2 1GBs instead (I have 4 slots)? Or should I just get 2 1GBs, the Intel E2140 C2D processor, and a Nvidia 7600GT? At this point it's not for running Crysis, seeing as how I don't have enough money for that kind of upgrade, but just to bring my computer up from "outdated" to "current" or decent.

You will lose lots of speed if you have 3 1 GB sticks. You lose dual channel, having 2 1GB sticks and 2 512s would just keep dual channel.
You should probably just get 2GB of RAM, a newer CPU, and a 8800GT. But you still won't be running it amazingly.

You probably don't want to hear this, but save your money until you have enough for a proper and full upgrade.

It will run Crysis, despite what the others say. I have the same stuff as you, and it runs fine. Low graphics settings, but fine.

I'd say save up a bit more. It'd be worth it. Use as much as possible from your old PC and upgrade your CPU to a cheap Core2Duo, your ram shouldn't be to expensive and an 8800GT. If you really need to, a new motherboard and power supply.
