Yes, 'Intel' rates the Q6600 at 80DegC max, take that word there, 'Intel'.
Obviously a manufacturer would rate that as the highest they can go, the truth is, the Q6600 can hit almost a 100DegC, without permanent damage setting in, although i would never run a CPU at that temp.
Air coolers such as the Scythe Infinty or the best air cooler around, the Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme will run a Q6600 at 3.6Ghz quite happily.
It would require a good overclocker, some good voltage mods and a good cooling system such as the Antec 900 and it would be a piece of piss.
I have seen a Q6600 running at 4.2Ghz on water cooling before and even higher on dry ice cooling.
If you don't believe the Q6600 can run at 3.6Ghz with good temps, look here.

Yar, it seems to overclock quite well, is that the GO stepping ones you are talking about or the originals?
To be honest, its so fast is i have no want or need to overclock it :/ bar to reduce its life span slightly.

Thats the newer GO stepping, but even the older B2's would still be really easy to overclock with a good air cooler such as the Thermalrite.

I have a G0 stepping and running it in a Cooler Master Cosmos with an Enzotech cooler (rated on par with the Thermalright, if not better).
I may try pushing my GO again, but right now I finally got it sitting quite happily at 3.4ghz with only a 10% bump in voltage . . . it doesn't like 3.6ghz unless I give it more (which is out of Intel's safe spec range . . . one could probably run it harder, but I rather leave it there).

NO air cooler out now is better than the Thermalright, and i can name 6 or 7 better coolers than the Enzo (it makes me laugh when websites rate them as on par when its pretty obvious they are not)
Having said that, the Enzo is still a wicked cooler, and you should be able to get 3.6Ghz out of the Q6600, i could, but it all depends how good your overclocking skills are, how good your memory is, motherboard ect all plays a big part.
What temps are you getting with the Enzo? are you using stock TP?

Just over clock your 2.6 core 2. The quads arent meant for over clocking so its harder. And you would have to get the quad 2.4 to see some real improvment.

With a liquid tower cooler, I run an overclocked Q6600 G0... 3.85GHZ

Also, following the trend, the 9800 series is going to be a massive step up.
An 8800GTX is twice as powerful as a 7950GX2 - You need TWO 7950GX2s - thats FOUR INDIVIDUAL CARDS - to equal one 8800GTX.

If we are to believe in the spec sheet for the new 9 series cards, they should run Crysis even with AA/AF enabled, but take anything that comes from Nvidia with a pinch of salt, the are prone to chat bollocks.
