Ok, so I see that AVG has a free version aswell as a version you have to pay for. The free one is good? and if I were to buy one which would be better, AVG or NOD32?

If you're going to pay for one, I'd suggest Kapersky.
If you're not, Anti-Vir Classic.
These are both rated over AVG and NOD32.

Nod32 is better. AVG Free is good too. Both are awesome.

The difference between AVG free and Pro is that Pro scans your computer in real time, free doesn't.

ROFL!!! It's scanning the computer constantly for changes that might be viruses. The free version, you have to actually run the scan to pick up viruses

The copy of AVG Free I have had a resident scanner.
What's the point of having a piece of AV software that doesn't do that?

Hey Coby, here's a site that you might be interested in when looking for anti-viruses. They do periodic testing on how Anti-Viruses are shaping up over time. They haven't done any recently yet though.
