Sorry to not help with the thread, btw I say stick with XP, but Vista is the main reason I am a Mac user. I too got Vista first day on the shelves and ran with it for the first few months. At the time it had absolutely no drivers for anything and many annoying little features. Though some buddies tell me it is slowly getting ironed out. My biggest complaint with it was the constant warning boxes. I'd try to run a disc, it would bring up the first one asking me how I want to open it. Then the screen would go dark and it would say are you sure you want to open this, then after that another box would appear to confirm. For shits sake! I just want to install photoshop!!!! Yes I understand this is a third party app!
So yes, I'd say stick with XP if it works for you, Jimmy likes it because of some of the new features that are actually useful to him and his situation which is great. But if you are just going to upgrade because of a why not, then I say stick with XP. MS is even giving away free XP OS to users of Vista so that has to say something. But I think that ends this June or July.

I say stick with Windows XP based on the things that you listed.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of eye-candy...so most times I turn it off to get more performance out of the system. Next is the long time to delete and remove files bug that has plagued this OS since day 1. Third, there is a massive delay when using VMWare when you first launch virtual machines that annoys me. I don't like the changes that they made to the start menu with the way that the menus collapse and so forth. And finally, I don't like having to escalate to an admin for doing things as simply as releasing and renewing an IP address from the command line.

So, all in all, I'm not a vista fan. I haven't been since day 1. I've got a copy of the RTM service pack 1 and even with that, I have absolutely no interest whatsoever.

But at the end of the day, if Vista was released 3 years after XP it would have been great, they had near enough 6 years to work on it and it failed.

Early Vista i.e when i got it the day it came out, sucked balls to high heaven and for me it still doesn't offer enough driver support, it offers enough to get by, but not enough to give us a broader range of options and especially me being primarily a gamer, i need those plenty and often, its been out for a year now.

People may have been saying the same things about XP but XP was a massive leap from 2000 and ME, Vista is not a big leap from XP and considering we waited 6 years for the fucking thing i feel a little pissed.
What components do you have that don't have Vista drivers yet

Everything I have has been supported quite well.

Some older sound cards still aren't supported, especially from manufacturers like M-Audio.

My ASUS Xonar works quite nice though!

I am pretty happy with Vista. The only real problem I ever had was no Nero support which is fixed now. I do have the annoying problem every once in a while where I will download something to my desktop and I cant see it and I have to go USER>DESKTOP to see the damn thing.

Yeah you just got to know how to use Vista. It seems to be the same as xp but it differs in some ways. Just have to get use to it.
