Pros
----
- More security features.
- Administrator and User accounts help limit child activity.
- Improved GUI.
- Faster than XP (for me, anyway).
- Added functionality.

Cons
----
- Some drivers not supported.
- Cannot use Media Center Extender for your 360.
- Networking problems.
- Weird folder organization.
- Learning curve.
- Cost money.

It all just depends on what all you're going to do with it.

Huh? If you have Home Premium or Ultimate you can. It works fine and is easier to set up than XP Media Center Edition.

Don't mean to sound like an ass, but I laughted at your post!

- More security features. - lol, I can't see any difference between Vista and XP SP2

- Faster than XP (for me, anyway). - How big is your machine?

- Cannot use Media Center Extender for your 360. - Media Centre STILL doesn't support DivX (without Transcode), Windows Media Player 11 Sharing from the dashboard does. Unless you have a TV tuner I don't see a need for Media Centre over WMP11.

You don't need to reply, I'm just saying....

Oh, and just to chime into the argument, all DX10 based games also run fine in DX9 on XP.

Right, well I went to bed after I asked the question and didnt really expect this to turn into such a big argument.

Basically 2 pages of it was arguments over gaming... I dont game on the pc, thats what my 360 is for.

Ive checked the microsoft site about my system requirments. Ive got more than enough resources to run it, and Im thinking of upgrading the pc while Im getting Vista just to make sure.

I'll admit, I like how Vista looks and the way it feels when I use it. Its not a great reason to get it but Id like to try it out properly.

Go for it then mate, it does look nice, it is pretty good to use as well plus your not gaming either.

I just have a big chip on my shoulder about it considering i paid £200 for two copies when it came out and until recently sucked dead mans balls.

I love Vista, it runs so much smoother than XP. I haven't had any compatibility issues (Except for a few older DX9 pc games). I wouldn't own another XP machine.

Guess the moral of the story is that you will simply have to try it and make the decision for yourself. Those who have it and like it, prefer to use it. Those of us who have had less spectacular results, will stay with XP for some time.

I'm with Brian. Never had a problem with Vista. While my XP laptop crapped out quite often. I know some people have bad experiences, I'm just not one of them. Go for it. Vista is nice, pretty and runs like a champ.

i think that vista is nothing to worry about, its a very good operating system and i see little problems, and they are easy to fix. I dont think you should upgrade, but its no big deal if the next PC you get is Vista. I like the way it looks though, but if your looking for that install and XP skin, but thats how i messed up my old computer.

So, what's the easy fix to this problem? Doesn't seem like MS has been able to fix this one.
