As for indesign performance, it wont even open so i don't need to worry lol, i get the process but nothing on the screen EVER, just builds up processes.
I currently have my scratch disc for that and photoshop etc on my boot drives my raptors as i thought it would be faster than my 500gig.

Two 74gig raptors in RAID 0 for boot and apps, one 500gig drive for everything else.

That's how I was gonna recommend setting it up.
How much RAM, Indesign is a resource whore!
I just brought our Media person a Mac Pro with 2 x Quad Core Xeon CPUs with 4Gb RAM, and Indesign still isn't hugely fast!
Adobe CS3 apps will run 64bit. Upgrade to 4Gb or more RAM!
Living Photoshop: 64 bits...when?

I have 4gig of RAM right now, its quite quick but then again i am yet to do something HUGE, i tend to segment the project into smaller files etc.
Yeah i was waiting for the 64bit stuff to come round for the PC.

So you have 4Gb RAM running 32Bit Windows XP/Vista?
You should really upgrade!
The other thing I can recommend is a Server class CPU, like a Intel Xeon or an AMD Opteron for doing that kind of work. You do notice the difference with the bigger FSB etc.

Sorry, I'm having one of those days....
Give me a sec, I'll reboot into Vista and I'll help ya trouble shoot it!
I'm running Fedora 8 atm, I'm sick of my dual core laptop running like a pentium 2!

Ok, try this:
Go to C:\Users\%Username%\AppData\Local\Adobe\InDesign - Copy and paste into an Explorer Window, and leave the %username% bit as is, it will correct itself.
In there is a file called Version 5 (if your using CS3) back it up and then delete it.
Do the same thing here too:
C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\InDesign
This should make InDesign come back up on its default settings.
