Yes, the AMD FX has been around for awhile. While a great CPU, as far as I recall, it's still being outperformed by the Intel Core 2 Duo line. I also believe the Core 2 Duo is less expensive as well.

The only thing which is "future proof" is DEATH. Did I mention, I absolutely hate the use of the term "future proof".

I found this...its a computer that I can order from a store, and they put together. This is what it has....

•AMD Phenom 9500 Quad-Core CPU w/Fan
•ASUS M3A Motherboard
•2GB DDR2 PC6400 800Mhz Memory
•320GB 7200RPM Serial ATA300 Hard Drive
•20X Samsung Double Layer DVD+/-RW w/Nero
•512MB GeForce 8600GT PCI Express w/DVI
•Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit
•1Gbit Ethernet Adapter
•High quality 8-Channel HD Audio
•Black APEVIA X-Plorer MidTower
•6 USB 2.0 Ports (2 Front and 4 Rear Ports)
•460W Cool Master eXtreme Power RS-460-PMSR-A3

It cost's $728 + Shipping. I looked it all up and the cost of all the things above is roughly a little over $700. I think its a good deal, what do you guys think?

Get a better PSU than the one you are upgrading to. You should probably be spending $100 more than you are on a PSU.

I would get either an OCZ, Corsair, Tagan, or PPC&C brand power supply.

OCZ sells a 600W (SLi-capable) for about $80... their older 500W one is about $60 or $70. I'm planning on upgrading to that OCX 600W.

Can't speak on the mobo, nor the HDD (no brand given); and i guess the GFX card is debatable depending on how much u game.

The other thing would be the 64-bit Home Prem... do u use 64-bit necessary apps? If not, a 32-bit OS may be better, especially w/ Vista.

And we all know the Core 2's are better , but AMD, i guess, still keeps the prices low and the procs. are decent [just not better].
