First, you didn't need to download wubi....it comes on the Ubuntu 8.04 installation cd. So, I would go into Add/Remove programs...and remove Ubuntu and Wubi. Then reboot Windows.
Then boot up, then put the Ubuntu 8.04 cd into the drive and run wubi. Let it install, it will want to reboot. it should reboot, choose Ubuntu from the bootloader, let it complete the load. Let me know what happens and where you end up at. If all goes well, you will end up at a graphical install screen asking for the username and password that you provided during the install.

That's awesome man. I'm just glad that you stuck with it after the massive problem that you had. Glad to see that you got things worked out.
What wireless card or chipset do you have? From terminal, run lspci and let me know.

I'm stuck on installing the wireless driver. I'm following this tutorial: Install BCM94311MCG wlan mini-PCI Ubuntu 7.10 Just [invaleed]
...and I'm stuck on this part:
make
sudo make install
I keep getting:
Quote:
home@home-laptop:~/bcm43xx/ndiswrapper/ndiswrapper-1.49$ make
make -C driver
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/home/bcm43xx/ndiswrapper/ndiswrapper-1.49/driver'

scripts/Makefile.build:46: *** CFLAGS was changed in "/home/home/bcm43xx/ndiswrapper/ndiswrapper-1.49/driver/Makefile". Fix it to use EXTRA_CFLAGS. Stop.
make[2]: *** [_module_/home/home/bcm43xx/ndiswrapper/ndiswrapper-1.49/driver] Error 2
