Most of my Ubuntu installs take about 20 minutes. Just as a reference.

Mine installed very quickly! I love it. Very happy with it!
One question... how can I make BACKSPACE go to the previous page when Firefox is the active window? I did that all the time before... I want it again.. LOL

in the address bar, go to about :config
Search for backspace
You find this:
browser.backspace_action,
Change the option from 1 to 0 and you should be able to get the "back space" key to go back through your history.

Did you follow my Comprehensive Ubuntu setup guide that I have posted here:
Pparks1 Comprehensive Ubuntu Setup Guide - ITCertForum.com
That guide covers everything from updating, adding multimedia support, adding codecs, enabling eye candy, playing commercial dvd's, ripping mp3's and DVD's, mounting Windows shares, installing the flash player, etc.
As a reference, you need to do this; (just cut and paste the 3 lines...minus the part in parens in the 3rd line)
Code:
sudo wget http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/hardy.list -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install medibuntu-keyring && sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install amarok (this step is optional...as amarok is the player that I like).
Popular MP3 player choices include;
audacious (bennie's fav)
amarok (my fav)
xmms (just like winamp)
banshee (I've yet to try)
mplayer (used it, but like others better)
The real key is that you have to enable the multimedia repository to get MP3 support (the first line in my code box above). By default, Ubuntu will NOT include this as it's not "FREE" from licensing restrictions and this is a distribution of free and open source software. But it's quite easy to add that in if you choose to use MP3 and endorse a non-free technology.

Yup, i understood the reason that they didn't have it supported out of the box. I found some stuff last night online on how to do that stuff. I got the repository unlocked and got it all working properly.
I have it all configured just the way I want, except one thing:
IT WONT SUSPEND/SLEEP/HIBERNATE! I Google'd it and it seems to be a HUGE widespread problem. I have an HP Pavillion dv6000... and I can't find any guide to a fix for making this thing sleep.
It sleeps for about 1 second, then kicks back on, and hangs on black screen with a single white cursor at the far top left... weird.
I even found a sweet replacement for Microsoft Office OneNote... it's called Basket Notes for Linux. It's got the same functionality and I can use it on Ubuntu here. Sweet.
I could totally make the switch if this sleep/suspend issue gets figured out...
I've converted to the parks-linux gospel. ha

Massive issue with so many brands of motherboards. Unfortunately I've never experienced it myself on either of my computers which run Ubuntu, so I can't answer you.
I seem to remember that this issue is related to the kernel. You might not have a fix until a new kernel is released.

Dang... I want it fixed quick... shutting down between each class to move the PC in my bookbag is not much of an option... lol
I only have 3 classes (master's degree work, not undergrad) so I guess I could do it.. lol
I have been pondering over the Asus eeepc 900 that has Linux as well.... I really want an ultra-portable.
