So do you recommend doing this or downloading Ubuntu and installing through disk and setting up partitions?

Or is it the same in the end?

This process is pretty much the same result, but a lot easier to undo if you don't like Ubuntu.
You still download the same CD, but you run it in Windows instead. Find Wubi.exe on the CD and follow the prompts instead of actually booting from the CD.

As unbelievably awesome as this app is, I'll still be doing it the old way. I like the option of removing Windows or reinstalling Windows without it affecting Ubuntu in any way. But that's because I'm already quite familiar and comfortable with Ubuntu.

The alternate CD is for PCs which are really slow (less that 384MB RAM), or have issues showing a user interface with the mouse and everything.

I'd use the alternate CD on a PC where I only needed access to the terminal and nothing else.

Other than that, go with the standard desktop CD.

Alright...now its time to see if I can get connected to a download server...lol.

Had it going yesterday, but, it stopped like half-way through.

Its fine to install without a fresh install of windows right?

EDIT: Got it, ill be on later with more ?'s, haha.

Ubuntu does not like my video card in this computer.
Wubi worked perfect on laptop with crappy intel gma graphics, but this one 7600gt I cannot get past the upsplash screen, tried reinstalling, loads of boot commands but nothing.

I'm gonna put my old ATi 9800 pro in and see if that sorts it.

Yeah, it's fine to install on any copy of Windows, no matter how crappy and slow it is.
Once it's installed, Windows will have bugger-all to do with it. Widnows only controls the install options and uninstall options (add/remove programs).

Your best bet at the moment would be to download it from a torrent link. The servers are going to be slow as hell for a long time!

The 7600gt would give you the best results, normally. ATI cards can be a real shit to configure.
This sounds like a driver issue more than anything. Had you managed to get into the Ubuntu PC at all before it started failing? Did you change any settings or config files?
