sid vista ultimate is kinda a waste, home premium gives you everything you will need, ultimate just gives you the extra business featurtes as well which a home user wont need

The 8800GT 256MB is hardly any good. You do NOT need a huge monitor to notice how much better the 512MB version is. Vista Ultimate is also certainly unnecessary.

What size monitor do you have?
There really is no need for SLI unless you have a pretty decent size screen.
Sound cards, eh, I am using one but dont notice that much of a difference at all...all depends on what speakers your going to use.
Newegg.com - Logitech Z-2300 200 watts RMS 2.1 Speaker System - Speakers
Those are the ones I have and I totally recommend them!
Oh and crysis has to be the dumbest game ever...friend has it, takes so much to fuckin run it and it doesnt look THAT GREAT on all high.
Friends Rig : Intel Core2Quad Q9300, GSkill 4 GB DDR 2 1066, ATI 3870 (512 MB), he gets 20-30 frames all high....is it really worth it?
Just get bf2, best game made man.

You don't need a computer for Xbox. However, Xbox is not the only gaming show in town. Lot's of people, myself included, like computer gaming as well. In my opinion, the games are far better, more immersive and on the online aspect of the games is often far better on the computer (64 player matches--or more).

The only thing which is "future proof" is DEATH. Did I mention, I absolutely hate the use of the term "future proof".

Thanks for all your suggestions guys. However my parents suddenly had a change of heart on buying a computer and so I actually probably won't get one anytime soon. But I'll come back to this thread later on and use your advice. Once again, thanks.

My home computer is so old and I always use it when I have school work cause I need my bed to do that. I rarely use my laptop which is much better but I need a new home computer badly. It is like over 5 years old. I want to build one for like 800 bucks but my parents won't let me spend the money. They say its not needed lol.
