Gaming rig that's $1000 or less

I'm sorry I know there's more threads like this, but I searched a couple of pages and didn't find any (might've missed them), but can someone give me a setup for a gaming rig that is 1000 bucks or less.

Did you not read my fricking post? I said I searched a couple of pages but i didn't see any so I made another one and this is for me specifically. Honestly, don't post if you don't have anything useful or good to say. And btw thanks pparks. I'll look at the setup you built for me and start from there. I don't think I'll get Vista. I'll stick with Windows xp. But other than that, thanks a lot!

EDIT: I have an 8600gt already. I was wondering how would just getting another 8600gt to SLI and then get 1 more gig of ram sound?

You will have to change the motherboard, as I didn't spec a mobo suitable for SLI. I don't see any benefit to running SLI...so that's not important to me at all when I spec out a machine.

Well then I'll have an 8600gt sitting here collecting dust and I got it a few months ago so I think it might be cheaper to SLI than get that 9800GTX. Also I have a few nooby questions. Can I use my XP home disc for this computer on another computer? And also I can't SLI two different cards right? (like an 8600gt and 8800gt). Thanks.

8600gts are not gaming cards, pay a bit more for an 8800gts 512mb or 8800gt

They're gaming cards, just not for avid gamers who play very detailed games... like Crysis. The 8600-series is about the lowest end u can go for gaming, i don't know how good the 9600 is compared to any of the 8600's.

Unless you're a hardcore gamer with a huge monitor then this card will do.
Newegg.com - XFX PVT88PUHD4 GeForce 8800GT XXX 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

And for $20 more I would go with an E8400.
Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor - CPUs / Processors

And with the money you saved on the Video Card get Vista Ultimate
Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more!
I would go with the cheaper one and then upgrade to SP1 via MS Update than spend an extra $20
