Laptop's monitors about to go

my laptop wire to my monitor is about to go....

if my screen shuts off...how do i hook it up to an lcd.....can i do this without the monitor on?

for example do i just plug something in?

set it up now before it goes.

plug the monitor into the VGA port at the back of your laptop.

go to properties > settings & choose activate the 2nd display & tick the box saying "use this as my primary display"

Laptop should have a FN key on the keyboard and an LCD/CRT button that you can press to toggle from having just the internal monitor on, the external monitor or both.
