Vista Hang Problem
So I have done a lot of searching all over the Internet but found nothing that truly helps so I thought I would try my luck here.
This seems to be a common problem but I will explain it. I have vista on my laptop (those of you familiar are already rolling your eyes, trust me I know haha) but anyway when the computer boots it starts with the bios screen, then the microsoft logo which is all normal and then the login screen comes up. After I login however, it hangs on the black screen with the mouse cursor. Now, what really gets me is if I go into the task manager, end the explorer task, and restart it the taskbar comes up instantly (quicker than it would have had I waited it out)
I am entirely confused by this so I wanted to know if any of you vista users have/solved this problem. Thanks a lot guys. Gotta love vista

reinstall vista, not the fastest or easiest fix but the only that will most likely be the best.. (if you purchased your laptop from dell, etc.) it will get rid of all the bloatware that came with it to....
sorry couldn't give better advice..

thanks for the quick reply, I have reinstalled vista since then but still nothing. You would think a NEW OS would be better than an old. At least thats the way things are SUPPOSED to go. haha

Have you got all the Windows Updates installed?
It may be a software bug in Explorer, and might go away with the correct hotfix.

Go to START>RUN>msconfig>startup Look at all the stuff that is running on startup. Uncheck all the crap that does not need to be running. For instance on my laptop I shut off the built in web cam program, Everything Nero, Microsoft crap, etc.
My laptop runs like a damn champ running Vista SP1. Mine is a dual core with 3gb of ram though so that might be the reason.

I had to reinstall vista on my laptop. This was happening as well as several other things just kinda dying. Every time I'd try to install something I'd get an error, winexplorer would die at random times. It was a mess. So, I redid everything. Now, it's nice and fast again. Of course, I've got UAC turned off and am running the new AVG. Probably won't be Jack Sparrowing any "programs" anytime soon though.

yeah ive got an amd dual core with 2 gig. I have gone through all the startup programs but I guess I will try again, see if I come up with anything. And yes, all the drivers are up to date as well as all the windows updates.
