Laptop for college
so i know a while back i made a thread asking advice on whether i should buy a laptop or a desktop for college
even though i currently have a 22inch LCD monitor you guys convinced me to go with the laptop for the pure portability of the machine and how useful that is in college.
however, i really wanna play games while at school, i'll be bringing my Xbox but i wanna play PC games as well, namely Counter Strike, and Age Of Conan.
I've been looking at laptops in Best Buy's ads and Dell.com and lots of other major outlets and i found that i can buy a machine for around 700$ that has 3GB memory and a 250GB hard drive, but with a CRAPPY INTEGRATED VIDEO CARD
thats the part that makes me so mad. i know CS doesn't take a workhorse of a computer to run but I've heard that AoC does. I think its just a shame that you have to buy a gaming specific laptop if you wanna play games on the go. cant they just swap the crappy integrated video card with a good one???
what should i do?

um, hate to break it to ya but thats pretty bad. my pc is 3-4 years old and when I built it it has 2gb of ram, and an x850xt graphics card, but hey, u got yours at a store so thats y it cost more.
back on topic, laptops are not made for gaming, plain and simple. to be able to game its gonna get expensive. Desktops for gaming, laptops not.
your going to college, u NEED a laptop to use in class. if your more worried about gaming then get a desktop, but it will not benefit you for school purposes.

Not necessarily. Really depends upon the school that you go to and what they use mostly on campus.

The only thing which is "future proof" is DEATH. Did I mention, I absolutely hate the use of the term "future proof".

Macs are overpriced and their OS does not support a lot of third party software, so no, Macs are not good college laptops. And you can't upgrade them.
If you want a good laptop, I suggest a Dell Latitude. Very reliable, efficient, and powerful. Not to mention cheap.

Definitely need a laptop for college. A lot of classes I'm taking require programs that the instructors give us and we need to use them in class, so portability is a plus.
As for Macs in college, I don't really think they are suited for it. All of the programs my instructors hand out are windows based so the only way you could run it using a Mac would be to partition the hard drive to use Mac and Windows. (Mac computers call it something other than partitioning I just can't think of the name) So it would come down to using your Windows partition for school, and the Mac for everything else, and I really don't see the need in doing that...too much trouble.
As far as gaming, I got my Dell for a good price...2 GB ram, don't remember the proc but I think it's a 2.0 ghz or higher, and the video card is decent. It's run everything I've thrown at it so far except CoD4 demo. My list of games on it are: Halo, GTA VC, GTA SA, Starcraft, Diablo II Expansion, WoW, Worms Armeggedon, and various other things like Google Earth, Photoshop, and some Guitar software. It runs everything great, better than my desktop really. Not sure if it would run Age of Conan though, but you could just buy that for your 360.
Edit: Oh, and my Laptop is a Dell Latitude as Dark Energy mentioned...great laptops for the price.
