EEE PC - Thinking of getting one

But which version? Had a go on the demo which had Linux OS (Which was pretty sweet) but I also see they do it with Windows XP as well. Having never used a Linux OS can someone (pparks?) give me some good/ bad points over the Windows version.

Linux

Play.com (UK) : Asus Eee PC 900-W / Intel Mobile / 1GB / 20GB / 8.9" / Linux / Netbook / White : Computing - Free Delivery

Windows

Play.com (UK) : Asus Eee PC 900 Win-W / Intel Mobile / 1GB / 12GB / 8.9" / Windows XP / Netbook / White : Computing - Free Delivery

Cheers

I have, well my family have 2. I reckon you should buy the new XP one and get a 160gb USB powered hard drive. Super small laptop.

Well, Linux is quite different from Windows. In fact, most of everything that you know won't really be usable or applicable. If you enjoy learning new things and want to have something that is essentially free (free from cost, free from limitations)....I'd go the Linux route.

If you already have software that you think you are going to want to run, don't have the patience to learn different ways of doing things....or aren't pretty computer savvy.....Windows is likely the better option.

For what the device is...I'd go Linux...just to keep it small, light and efficient. The installed OS will meet these basic needs (surfing web, email, etc) quite well. If you are looking for a desktop replacement for your Windows machine...you should really consider a full size laptop in my opinion.

The only thing which is "future proof" is DEATH. Did I mention, I absolutely hate the use of the term "future proof".

Its gonna be for travelling, e-mail and just web surfing etc. I'll use this Laptop (one i'm one now) for work, downloads etc. I quite liked the way the Linux desktop was laid out. Can you install regular PC games on it?
