You got that right. I simply am astounded when i see somebody lose everything on their computer and you find that they don't have a backup. With as cheap as hard drives are and as easy as it is to make a backup of your data (just drag and drop), there really is no good excuse.
If you are using a Linux machine, I'd suggest using rsync to keep the 2 drives synchronized. If you are using Windows, I'd suggest Microsoft Robocopy of Karen's Replicator if you really want a gui. Here is the link to Karen's replicator backup application Karen's Replicator
With these apps, you can do backups in a very short time as they ONLY backup files which have changed.

The only thing which is "future proof" is DEATH. Did I mention, I absolutely hate the use of the term "future proof".

I have four gaming computers around my house, i only have pics of the inards of this one atm.
This is the baby of all four and doesn't get much game time anymore, so you can probably imagine what the other 3 look like.

Hiper Type R 580w
2x Western Digital Raptors in Raid 0
Antec 900 chassis
Still not a bad spec by todays standards despite being pretty old, plays Crysis on high at 1440x900 as well as any other game on the market.
My other computers are monsters compared to this hence why its not used much anymore, still one of my favorite builds though.

Not much of a looker, I decided against disco lighting.
Specs:
Gigabyte EP35-DS3L
Intel E8400 w/ OEM heatsink
450W PSU
250 GB HDD
DVD R/RW +
Integrated 7.1 audio
Chaintech 8600 GT (running at ~100* C loaded)
Windows XP/ Ubuntu dual boot
1280 x 1024 CRT screen (making a hideous squeal ATM)
Logitech speakers of some sort
Soon to be HD 4870 after the prices drop from the 4870 x2 release and a 600W power supply to power it (leaning toward PC P&C Silencer 610 ATM)

Mine's very similar to Jamie's:
P4 3.2GHz
2GB RAM
200GB IDE Maxtor drive
128MB Radeon 9800 Pro (was a 6800GT up until about a month ago, but it kicked the bucket.)
Does everything I ask of it without problems.
