It is not the first MMO I ever played. I just dont like MMO's in general. They are called "role playing games", but you don't play a role and the story is always weak, the quests are boring and repettitive, the worlds aren't as active or engaging as an RPG world.

Thats where I found one of WoW's most strongest points, the story.
Its huge, and theres so much Lore.
I wouldnt come here and post ur opinion on WoW if you dont like MMO's in general.
People who have have decent experience with them, and can solidly back up there opinion rather than "i dont like mmo's in general" would be a lot more helpful.
Ive played WoW for almost 2 years now, and not many games can keep you involved for 2 damn years!.
And of course you play a role, you might want to edit that out.
You just dont star as the almighty world-saver,
you are in the same boat with many almighty world-savers.
"the worlds aren't as active or engaging as an RPG world."
Sounds like to me, that your expecting MMO's to be too much like a linear game, that takes you through a single scripted path.
In that case, normal RPG's do make you feel immersed and engaged by flooding NPC's in the game world, all in the right place, at the right time. (kinda pulling wool over ur eyes)
Whereas MMO's are "do your own thing", open-endedness,
so there might be players 100's of miles away, and ur stuck in the middle of nowhere, its all ur own doing, rather than the game holding ur hand through it all.
P.S get the damn trial!

yea i should have worded that differently.
Bassically all you need to know is.
Its got more Subscribers than any other MMO.
Its recognised as the "Main" MMO in the genre.
Its known for its ability to run on low end machines.
Its the most polished MMO there is.
Its made, and maintained by one of the best developers that ever existed.
Its updated regularly.
Customer service (from experience) has been 2nd to none.

like most MMORPG's you will lose all track of time, you will stop going out, you will eat more crap than normal, and one day you will realise that killing sheep like things over and over and over and over and over and over and over in the hopes that their dead body will contain a pickup, is very repetative.

Wow, a lot of people seem to whine saying you'll lose your life, etc etc.
When I was going to IHCC for college I was rooming with my friend. Met a few people there and they were all into WoW. They finally convinced me to get into it.
What happened to me? Not a damn thing really. Got into the high twenties and stopped due to funds being low. Did I get addicted? Nope. Did I waste my life? Not more than two hours a night, often less. Did my grades drop? Nope, school always took priority. Did I lose my GF? HAH, nope.
To make it simple for those that need it to be spelled out, if an MMO was going to "ruin your life" it was only you to blame and potential mental health issues. Maybe if I wasn't on medication for OCD I'd be in the same camp, but as long as I have that self control prevails easily. I noticed a lot of people grind struggling to get more play time for their money, but that should never be the point of the game and often makes it less enjoyable while you damage your real life. However, once again this is your choice.
Realise that, you'll always pay money whether you play it or not. Realise there's times and nights where it is not worth playing it. If you think this is a waste of money, don't bother. If you're not going to play it for an extended period of time for a certain reason, family, health, moving, etc . . . those types of issues, put your account on suspend so you're not charged for the month(s) you can't play it. Your account will remain intact though.
Of course, the screen where you cancel (suspend IMO) the script will have an animation of a guy begging you to stay . . . if you can't handle that then please lay in front of my door, I've been needing a new doormat for a while.

why would you want to live a 2nd game life, live your own life. go get laid. go get drunk. do drugs. socialize. whatever you do outside the house is 100 times better than a game.
