Laptop + extra monitor + 360

So i currently play my 360 games on my 22in PC monitor. Recently i purchased a laptop and have set up dual screens. Which is AMAZING by the way.

However, its incredibly annoying how i have to unplug my laptop from the monitor and plug in my 360. So i bought a splitter but it only works as a dual screen for my PC. When i turn on my 360. the monitor says something like "input is not valid" or something.

HELP!!!

EDIT: it does work, i just have to turn off the laptop first, but my image on the secondary monitor and my 360 is washed out. what gives

Clearly it's easier to switch cables on the monitor than it is to turn off the laptop and get a washed out picture?
