Need Serious 360 / Windows Media Center Vista help!
Hello,
I am pretty much at my wits end and am pretty clueless about what I need to do next to rectify my problem. Basically what I am trying to do, is be able to watch Netflix through my 360. I downloaded the "vmcnetflix" extender which plugs in to my Windows Vista Windows Media center. I Added the 8 digit code that 360 gave me in order to link up Media Center so the 360 could access it from upstairs as the laptop is downstairs. I try to do the internet speed test via 360, and it tells me that my internet connection is not strong enough. My other half purchased a new router without consulting with me (as I knew that 360 required something that was 802.11a). After the 360 ran the test, it told me that my connection was basically not strong enough and it gave examples of what each can and can not do. It said that 802.11g provides choppy or slow movie playing abilities, the 802.11 b basically was not compatible, and the only one that had less interference and was recommended was 802.11a. Well my other half bought a new D-Link router (Xtreme N Gigabit Router Model Number DIR-655). Well since I wasn't involved in the buying choice, I was not able to voice that I needed something 802.11a compatible. We just got the new router online tonight, and I tried it again and have the same results. Basically my den/computer room is on the 1st floor of my house. I do not have any ethernet connections upstairs where my tv/360 are. I basically am not able to generate a strong enough signal in order to play everything like I should. What is the best thing to do in order to boost the signal upstairs? I was thinking another router, but again I don't have an ethernet port upstairs in order to plug into the router. Would a range booster work, or something like an Apple Airport Express work for what I am needing? ANY help is definitely appreciated as I am about to spit blood with all the frustration I have dealt with thus far. Many thanks in advance! Also, I do have the Xbox360 wireless network adapter connected through my network. Somehow the wireless signal just is not strong enough from downstairs to upstairs.
