That's because the BareBones setup has to appeal to a wide range of people and that much RAM is just not something that consumers do....so they don't build with those types of motherboards.

Barebones are often more expensive because they include cases, power supplies, motherboards, processors and memory. Some include more, some include less.

Not if you already bought it...unless they provided you with some type of coupon or something.

And the other side of the coin is some of us have multiple 64bit installations and not had a single issue

Do you have any idea what driver, etc, caused the crashes?

Thats good to hear, If I buy a ready built pc then all the driver / hardware ETC should be fine with the 64 version.

64 bit for sure. I am using Vista X64 and it's the best, most stable OS that I have ever used. I have it tweaked some to get rid of the bloatware, but it's awesome.

I have never run into problems using 64 bit OS's, you should be fine.

i have 64 bit, and its stable but i have a few compatibility issues. Mostly with windows media player, always telling me that i don't have enough ram (even though i have 4gb). Some online programs dont have compatibility for 64bit yet, but most do. I do like the fact that i can upgrade to 8gb of ram in the future

64 bit - Future Proof
32 bit - Compatibility (but others beg to differ)
Just my $0.02 but I'd go with 64 bit.

Arghhhh, "futureproof"....I just hate that term. 64-bit Vista is only future proof until Windows 7 64-bit comes out.

Does anyone know if you get a new computer, like now or soon, with Vista on it if Windows 7 will be a cheaper upgrade when it's released?
