Of course that is correct, but the way they went after 1Ghz led many people to believe that it really was that important. Then they got their asses handed to them by Intel. Of course, they came back big time with the AMD Athlon 64 X2's and had the performance crown until Intel crushed them with the Core 2 Duo, Core 2 Quads and now the Core i7's. I just hope that AMD hangs around long enough to give Intel competition......because this competition is really a huge benefit to the consumer.

Yeah, it really is. I do not want to see AMD go the way of Cyrix. With the Athlons, they were superior to the PIII, but the average person cares about numbers on the box.

I actually have never owned a amd system of any kind graphics card or cpus. My parents have so I am not like all I am a amd fanboy cause I am not but an i7 is way too much for me I am only going to spend like 8 - 1000 max max but I want included speakers, keyboard and mouse, gamepad

It's about $65 more for the Core i7 CPU....so I don't think that will break the bank. Don't rule them out. For your price, you may find the Phenom II is out of reach as well.

Well, when I was a kid it was a commodore Vic-20, then a Commodore 64. After that, an IBM Xt 8086. Of course, those were all purchased by my dad.

The first computer that i bought with my own money was a Packard Bell 486SX-25 with 4MB of RAM, 170MB connor hard drive, a 512k Cirrus Logic Video card, 2x CDROM drive and a 15" monitor for about $2,000. This was around 1994.

Then I built a Pentium 200MMX machine and dozens thereafter. Some included an Intel Celeron 300A, AMD K6-2 450, Intel Pentium III 733, AMD Athlon 1Ghz, Pentium 4 2.4ghz, pentium 4 3.2 ghz, AMD Sempron 2800+, and AMD Athlon 64 4600+. (My current Linux desktop)

On the laptop front, I've had an AMD K6-2 300, an AMD turion 64, and a couple of Intel core 2 duo's.
