How do you tell...

How good of a power supply you have? And if you need a better one?

Does it switch off under heavy load, computer crash or shit stop working?

Google power supply calculator and it will give you a rough idea of what kind of power supply you need.

Also things about rails and different brands are better than others.

Depends on if its shit or not, if its going to die it will die, if you overload it with loads of shit it will cause problems.

As long as your computer is functioning properly, I really wouldn't worry about it. However, if you do intend to build your own computer in the future....skimping out on the power supply is something that I would heavily recommend against. For example, a mid-tower case with a 400w power supply for $39.99 is going to be garbage. On the flip side, if you go with a known reputable brand like Antec...an ATX case with a 450w power supply for $129 is going to be alright. Still not the best power supply in the world, but not likely to take out your computer either. For the computer that I am building right now, I went with an Antec case and a Corsair 620w modular power supply.

My case is the Antec P182...which is almost identical to the P183. It was about $140
Newegg.com - Antec P183 Black Aluminum / Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Computer Cases

My Power Supply was also around $140
Newegg.com - CORSAIR CMPSU-620HX 620W ATX12V v2.2 and EPS12V 2.91 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply - Power Supplies

As you can see, costs can shoot up heavily...but power is an extremely important piece of a computer and is usually an area where the pre-assembled manufactured computers tend to cut costs. But as long as you have a good warranty and they support you, it isn't too much to worry about.
