How to do combos
Can someone help me with being able to do the smokin' combos and the smokin' style and the smokin' sick style combos. I can't get higher than brutal.

Tip list:
1. Variety. Switch between ground and air combos, and don't use the same combo twice in a row. Do a ground combo, then an air combo, different ground, different air.
2. Exceed and Charge Shots. These are actually worth a good amount of style points. Go into battle with full of each to get a good start.
3. Speed. Always be planning your next move so there are no gaps in your fight, which drain your style multiplier. With Nero, utilize the Devil Bringer ALOT. It's great for seamlessly blending combos. Upgrade it soon. With Dante, use Trickster to get after enemies quickly, with Swordmaster you can use the innitial dash from Dance Macabre like a Trickster dash, Gunslinger you don't have to get close.
4. DON'T GET HIT. Each hit drains the multiplier two levels. B to D, A to C, etc. And when you get hit, it's probably more than once. Be aware of other enemies around you besides the one you're fighting at the moment. This is especially true when fighting the Knights.
5. Cluster. One of the best ways to get crazy combos is to fight multiple enemies at once. Lure/Pull multiple enemies to you and use your group sword combo, Dante and Nero both have a combo for this. Nero's is Y Y, then Y several more times. Dante's is Y, then Y several more. There are more ways to do this. I once went from no combo to SSS by lasering 3 knights at once when none were blocking, killing them all.
6. Difficulty. The higher difficulty, the more hits the enemies can take, the more stuff you can do, the more style you have.
7. Read. Yes, that's right, read. Go and look at and get to know all of your combos and other moves so you can utilize them all. Also, look at the enemy descriptions in the Library after you encounter them. Some can be very helpful, like Chimera attached to enemies can be disabled with small arms fire.
That's all i'll say for now, don't want to pack your brain with too much so you can't remember.

Or if your a noob you can select Automatic and it will do the different combos, exceed, and charge shots by itself.

How am i a noob ....this is what i get for helping people out. I actually can exceed and charge shots myself without the help of the Automatic function because if you pick automatic most of the times its going to use streak or some stupid combo that wastes time.

I love streaking, then pulling them back, then doing that back-forward uppercut slash, and then pulling them back, then streaking again, etc. I get pretty good style and it's really usefull on tougher enemies.

I once got up to SSS straight away with 3 angels and killed them all, I think all I did was Devil trigger and they all somehow died, I thaught it was a glitch but I seem to remember the game showing a clip of Nero doing the same thing if you leave it for a while before pressing start.
I like to stay airborne while fighting with nero, use enemy step to jump back up if you fall down too far and keep pulling things up and using roulette spin, charge shots and busters (only if you feel you are reasonabely safe) It doesnt work too well against knights though as you cant pull them up, and frosts seem to be really good at shooting you out of the sky with ice needles, keep frosts cloce so they dont do that move and knock knights into the air and then beat them up, watch out when there are lots of them too and dont use the buster much unless none of them are attacking as it takes a while to use and leaves you pretty much defenceless unless you are in DT mode.
Dante seems to be better at fighting enemies on the ground, he is a little slower than nero but has lots of different weapons and styles, pandora kicks ass at a reasonable distance and gilgamesh packs a punch but its a little slow, Its normally best to use rebellion for the start of the combo and then switch to gilgamesh half way through or useonly the faster moves. I still havent got the hang of the lucifer blades (im not really all that good at Devil may Cry 4...) but people who get past their initial difficulty to use tell me they can be pretty destructive.
Oh, and devil trigger, keep using taunts and dodging attacks to boost your DT gauge, then ahnialate everyone, Nero's is probably the best for getting combos as each of his attacks count for two.
This is just my strategy and its probably not the best, but use it if you feel like it.
