Surround sound system to play music through Xbox Media Extender

Can someone offer some advice.

I would like to connect my Xbox to my PC using the media extender capabilities, and then connect the Xbox to a surround system so i can play music without the TV actually being on. Would this actually be possible?

Yes. You can try getting Windows Media Player to work, but Tversity is a good option too that will also let you watch almost any video from your PC on your 360 as well as listen to music.

Best way imo is putting music on an external hdd. Don't have to worry about networks and their bs. I use a Western Digital Passport as my external hdd as all you need is a usb cable connected to the 360(no power cable!). I also use it to play AVIs copied to the hdd on the 360.

The only problem you'll have is no display to be able to easily select your music. Using the media remote will help you remember which button does what, but selecting a new album will be near impossible if you don't remember all the button presses and the order in which your albums are listed. Of course, playlists will make that easier, but selecting a new playlist will create the same issues.

So yes, it's perfectly possible, just a bit of a pain in the ass.
