8 gig Nano vs. 30 gig photo
Now as you may know, apple has made a new generation of Ipods. I own a 30 gig photo, with only 717 songs and im a jealous of the size of the nanos. I had my mind set on selling my 30 gig photo, and buying an 8 gig nano. But the 30 gig video is pretty tempting to me right now aswell. I honestly really want something small and something that wont require a case. Just something i can have on me all the time and not have to worry. try and help me decide. edit to mods:move to digital home

Don't get an iPod. You can get better for your money. Sell your 30GB if you want and get something smaller as you obviously don't need the space. Cowon makes some very nice mp3 players as does Creative and Toshiba. They'll all give you more features, better sound quality, than an iPod. iPods were the best years ago, they've long since been dethroned. They're more of a fashion trend now than anything else.

I think if I had to choose, I would go with the 30gig. The only bad thing is that its less reliable. Im just mad that I bought a 1gig nano about 2 months ago for $150 and now you get a 2gig for that price... I do like the old style more though.

I agree, Ipods are like a fasion trend. When someone says mp3 player, Ipod is what most people automaticly think of. I dont like iPods but so many people buy them and dont even consider any other mp3 player.

i personally like the new ipod vid. i had the 30gig photo and as soon as the video came out i bought that one in black its a lil thinner then the photo and the screen is slightly bigger. havent gotten my hands on the new gen video yet dont get paid for another 2 weeks. but my lil sister has the nano and its really small if thats wut your looking for. i dont really carry my ipod with me when i walk around but there size is small enough where it wouldnt be a problem. smaller then my treo thats for sure.

So....just because a lot of people buy Bose means you shouldn't consider any other audio either?

Wait for the zune to come out this holiday season. Better functions. Wi Fi and other better stuff, and it's made by microsoft.

I don't like the zune because of the DRM crap. MS abandoned their entire Plays For Sure platform and invented a new DRM for this device...so music purchased for the PFS platform won't work in the Zune.
As far as Wi-Fi goes, it's only for transferring songs between 2 zunes from what I have read. So, I can transfer you a song, and you can play it 3 times before you need a DRM license to continue playing it again. I'd like to know who crowned MS king to say that songs can fairly be played back 3 times legally but at 3 playbacks you have to stop.
I really hope that the zune fails. MS has sold out and stabbed the world in the back with the Plays For Sure devices that they claimed you "need to buy to ensure compatibility with all of the music services". An iPOD killer, I don't think so.

I vote against IPOD. there software blows, hardware is good(as far as i can tell)but u can only use there stuff, its not universal enough for me.
ITUNES is the worst music software I have ever used in my entire life.
www.newegg.com and www.tigerdirect.com
they have a selection of mp3 players. Just a place to start

I'm not an iPOD fan myself (i have a Creative Labs Zen Micro). I did buy an iPOD 30GB video for my wife and she loves it. And even though I am a creative labs fan, I will admit that the navigation of the iPOD is MASSIVELY better than the Creative Labs product. It's not even close. The pad is WAY TOO SENSITIVE on the Creative Labs product, even at the lowest setting.
You don't however, have to use iTUNES for your iPOD. There are alternatives out there. But I do LOVE the fact that I can drag and drop music from Windows Explorer onto my Zen.
