Samsung 46" DLP HDTV
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1155071784564 My bro just bought this for our living room because he got an awesome deal on it since he works at Bestbuy. I was thinking about bringing my 360 downstairs for a few minutes to see how it looks on this thing. I don't know though. Are Dlp tvs any good for gaming? Should I try it out?

really? Thanks I'll try it out today and tell you how it looks. Doesn't it have like a special mode for gaming that you can set?

The resolution does seem a bit lower then usual though - my 26" LCD does 1366x768, which is higher then your DLP.
Then again, I dont know much about DLP's, so you'll probably get good images like ap891 says above....

I have a question. How come these DLP tvs are so cheap? $1399 for a 46". My bro says it has a bulb inside that lasts three years than you have to buy another one that costs like $300. Is that the reason why they are cheap or is it because you just don't get as good a picture that you would with LCDs or plasmas? Although I think the picture is gorgeous. I was watching american football on it yesterday and it looked awesome.

I think they are less expensive because they don't mount on a wall. I think the picture is as good as any of the formats imo. I have a 50 inch samsung dlp, and absolutely love it. I wouldn't mind getting one that is 1080p in the near future when broadcasts start utilizing that resolution. The bulb is the only thing to really replace from what I've read, and yes, those can be fairly expensive. But it looks like the lifespan of the tv will be greater than lcd or plasma....but I don't know if that really is important considering how everything is seeming to be upgraded so fast....

Rear projection TVs are cheaper than flat panels in general. imho, a DLP gives you a better picture than an LCD and almost as good of a picture as a plasma.
Prices have dropped soo much recently it's insane.
btw, make sure to calibrate it if you care about picture quality! Get a copy of DVE

Also keep in mind that both Rear Projection LCD and DLP both have bulbs which need to be replaced. The bulbs are very similar to projector bulbs and typically last 2,000-6,000 hours. Most of the bulbs for DLP's and Rear Projection LCD's are about $200-$300, which projector bulbs are usually $300-$600.
DLP usually is considered to be a better picture than LCD (either LCD or Rear Projection LCD) because DLP has better black levels. Plasma and standard CRT (and rear projection CRT) have better black levels yet.

The only thing which is "future proof" is DEATH. Did I mention, I absolutely hate the use of the term "future proof".
