It is a 720p DLP projector meaning the native resolution(aka actual resolution) of the DLP chip is 720p(1280x768 in this case). However, it can accept a 1080p signal and display it. It downscales the image to 720p before it is shown, however you still get the majority of benefits. The resolution of the signal is more important than the resolution of the display.
I used to have a 480p projector(854x480 resolution) and no one could tell that it wasn't actually HD as it accepted up to 1080i and looked absolutely amazing.
The main advantage of a display having a higher resolution is being able to sit closer without seeing the pixel grid. It also increases brightness a bit and helps show every last detail. But a 720p with an excellent video processor can show just as much detail as a 1080p display. This is quite evident with the latest Panasonic plasmas for example. Their 720p yet they show as much detail as a 1080p Pioneer Elite or 1080p Sony XBR

I hate posts like this, as most are just psuedo belief that running a higher signal resolution compared to your display will make a difference to quality. If you do see a difference between the two, it's caused by the scaling chip and any difference seen in "quality" is merely your percieved difference which can also be effected psychologically as being a "positive" difference.

haha I was waiting for your reply. I actually don't see a difference between running my 360 at 720p, 1080i, and 1080p...I never once said I did. The only reason I run it at 1080p is because I can. The posters above were wondering how my 720p projector was able to handle a 1080p signal which is what my answer clearly explains.
And yes I also realize that if I were to see a difference between the three resolutions it'ld have to do with scaling and nothing more. This is why some TVs look better at 720p than 1080i and vice versa

I currently have my laptop hooked up to my sound system. All you need is an optical cable or even a headphone to red/white cable will do.
What's your budget?
